Rare Books and Manuscripts

Locations

  • The Library's Rare Books Collection is held in the Rare Books Room, R.G. Menzies Building, with the exception of a collection of rare books relating to law which is held in the Law Library.
  • A number of Special Collections and the archive of ANU Press and ACTON Press are also housed in the Rare Books Room.

Identifying and accessing rare books

  • Rare books are identifiable in the Library catalogue by the location "Menzies Rare Book".
  • Material in the Rare Books Collection may not be borrowed but may be viewed upon request.
  • Items in the ANU and ACTON Press archive are only available for consultation where the Library holds no other copy.

Requesting an item from the Rare Books Collection

  • Use the new online request form -- or --
  • Complete a request card and submit it to the Menzies Information Desk for collection at these times:
    Monday to Friday: 10.00 a.m, 2.30 p.m
    Sunday : 1.45 p.m
  • Requests must be submitted by the above times to be collected at the next pick-up. Please allow 10-15 minutes for retrieval.
