1. Locations and coverage

• Deposit copies of all ANU Doctoral and some Masters' theses are held in the Theses Collection in a restricted area of the R.G. Menzies Building, with the following exceptions:
  • Master of Law and Master of International Law theses (presented before October 1987) are kept in the Law Library.
  • ANU Honours theses are not held by the Library. Individual teaching departments may hold some of them.
  • The Theses Collection includes a few theses from other institutions (i.e. non-ANU) to which access restrictions apply.
  • Non-ANU theses which do not have access restrictions are in the open collection.
• A few ANU electronic PhD theses are also available

2. Identifying and finding ANU theses

• You can identity a thesis in the catalogue by the location 'Menzies thesis'. You can limit your catalogue search to ANU Theses only.
• Those who consult theses from the Theses Collection undertake to use them only for the purpose of private study and research.

3. Access to on-site users

• ANU Theses may not be borrowed. However, they are available to the public upon request with some restrictions - see below.
• Use the online thesis request form
• ... Or complete a request card and submit it to the R.G. Menzies Building information desk for collection at these times:
  • Monday to Friday : 10.30 a.m, 2.30 p.m
  • Sunday : 1.45 p.m.
• If you submit your requests by the above times, you can collect them after the next pick-up. Please allow 10-15 minutes for retrieval.
• Telephone and email requests for thesis retrieval will be accepted (subject to conditions as above), but you must fill out a request card before you read the thesis is. Phone the Menzies Information Desk on 6125 2005; or email: AsiaPacific.Library@anu.edu.au

4. Access to outside institutions or individuals

• ANU theses are not available for inter-library lending.
• Non-ANU institutions or individuals may be able to purchase a copy of an ANU thesis, subject to author permissions and your acceptance of copyright conditions.
• Cost per copy (including postage within Australia or overseas airmail, plus GST) ranges between A$62-A$86.70.
• Only PDF format copies on a CDROM are supplied

5. Access Restrictions

• whether a non-ANU person is permitted access to the thesis;
• whether photocopying from the thesis is permitted; and
• whether the Library is permitted to duplicate a copy for another institution.

Occasionally, a thesis will not be available to anyone. This may be permanent or for a limited time. To check whether any access conditions apply to a particular thesis, ask at the RG Menzies Building information desk. Non-ANU readers are advised to check in advance whether they will be granted access to a particular thesis.
