The Nixon Years: 1969-1974
Access is now available to The Nixon Years: 1969-1974. These files, digitized from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) in The National Archives, Kew, allow scholars and researchers the opportunity to assess, from a British, European and Commonwealth perspective, Nixon’s handling of numerous Cold War crises, his administration’s notable achievements, as well as his increasingly controversial activities and unorthodox use of executive powers culminating in Watergate and resignation.
Many files focus on foreign policy issues: the Vietnam War and Paris Peace Talks; the regularization of relations with the Soviet Union; China; the Middle East. There is also significant coverage of Nixon’s domestic policy initiatives:
- the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency
- the extension of the Voting Rights Act and liberal action on Civil Rights
- the reorientation of the Federal Native American policy
- New Federalism
The Nixon Years: 1969-1974 can be accessed from the Library home page via the catalogue and the E-resources and databases list. For further information please contact the AskANU desk on 6125 4428 or socialsciences.library@anu.edu.au.
