How to use the Catalogue

What is in the ANU Library Catalogue?

  • no journal articles - use SuperSearch or a specialised e-resource for this
  • all items and subscriptions owned or licensed by the ANU Library, regardless of format

Catalogue record

There are about 1.3 million records in the ANU Catalogue. A catalogue record holds all the information about an item. It is displayed on screen in three parts:

  1. title / author, publisher & edition - top box
  2. access information - in the middle section
  3. further details - in the lower box

In the further details section (lower box) look for hyperlinked references, such as subject headings, that take you away to related material.

Electronic material

The catalogue contains thousands of online electronic items - increasing all the time. Online electronic journals, books and texts have links in the access (middle) part of the record:

Printed items and other physical formats

In the access (middle) area of a non-electronic record, the Location tells you which building to visit. The Call number tells you where to find an item within that building. Books are shelved in call number order and the call numbers represent subject areas. Status tells you whether the book is available or explains why not.
