About this database
The Southeast Asian Serials Index (SASI) provides access to information on Southeast Asia through the indexing selected academic and current affairs journals published in a range of countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, The Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, United States and Australia.
The forerunner to SASI was the Indonesian Serials Database which was developed and launched by the Australian National University Library in 1995, and had as its main focus the indexing of Indonesian language journals. The Indonesian Serials Database was substantially strengthened in scope and size in 1998 when The Royal Institute of Linguistics and Anthropology (KITLV) in Leiden, The Netherlands, joined it as a partner and began contributing index data from its major publication Excerpta Indonesica to the re-named Southeast Asian Serials Index. In 2005, Monash University's Asia Institute, became the third partner and began contributing index data of its own publications to SASI.
Coverage
With the substantial cooperation of the KITLV Library and Monash University.s Asia Institute, the subject and area coverage of SASI was expanded. Journals indexed include publications from several European Union countries, the United States and Australia. While there is still a strong focus on Indonesia, the index also contains information on several other Southeast Asian countries and Papua New Guinea.
At a glance, SASI contains:
- Over 77,000 records
- From 143 journals (not all current)
- Subjects covered include Southeast Asian current affairs, economics, politics and other social sciences.
Keywords
Keywords used in the index are drawn from the KITLV thesaurus.
