Basic search
The basic tab is opened by default when the user first navigates to the SASI interface, and contains a simple box that allows users to enter one or more search terms with which to conduct a ‘basic’ search.
You can choose to combine mutliple terms by selecting the boolean operators AND or OR from the drop-down box below the search terms field. If only one term is entered then the value in this drop-down box is simply ignored.
You can also search for a phrase by enclosing two or more search terms within quotation marks. Such phrases can be further combined with terms that are outside the quotation marks, in which case the phrase is combined with the single term(s) according to the selected boolean operator just as if the phase were itself a single term.
For example, the following searches are possible:
- The expression indonesia music will search for the terms indonesia AND music or indonesia OR music depending on the selected boolean combination.
- The expression "indonesian music" will search for the phrase indonesian music
- The expression "indonesian music" gamelan will search for (indonesian music) AND gamelan or (indonesian music) OR gamelan depending on the selected boolean combination.
- The expression "indonesian music" gamelan pelog will search for the expression (indonesian music) AND gamelan AND pelog or (indonesian music) OR gamelan OR pelog depending on the selected boolean combination.
- The expression "indonesian music" "gamelan orchestra" will search for the expression (indonesian music) AND (gamelan orchestra) or (indonesian music) OR (gamelan orchestra) depending on the selected boolean combination.
This basic search will look for all occurrences of the search term(s) or phrase(s) in the title, author, keyword, or abstract fields of all of the records in the database.
