Lists should be submitted six weeks before the items are required.
Requests for items to be ordered for purchase by the Library should be made at least 3 months in advance of the required date. If requests are received later, material may not be available at the time students are required to use it.
Lecturers should nominate whether books, already in the collection, are to be transferred to 2 day or 2 hour loan.
Two day loan books are located on the open shelves in Chifley, Hancock, Menzies and Law, and they are marked accordingly.
Only high use books i.e. those issued more than 10 times in the previous year will be placed in 2 hour Reserve collections (unless a case can be made for inclusion).
Reserve lists should be restricted to essential required reading only. Requests for more than 75 titles per semester should be discussed with the relevant Reserve Supervisor. Students appreciate longer access to suggested reading.
Reading Bricks and private copies of books are accepted into Reserve collections for the duration of a course and they are always processed as 2 hour loans.
Reading Bricks and bulky lecture notes should be presented in a manner that allows them to be photocopied easily and kept together eg. Spiral bound.
Articles and book chapters for scanning should:
Be A4 size, clean, straight on the page and preferably not on recycled paper
Have text that is clear and legible
Have little or no black photocopy margin
Where articles are available electronically and copyright clearance is not required, it is possible for reserve lists to be linked to the electronic version. The electronic journal suppliers from whom we currently have permission include Project Muse, JSTOR and Academic Ideal. Articles will only be made available in electronic format. They will not be provided in print form as well.
