InfoPlace at the Art & Music Libraries

The Art & Music libraries each have a computer lab that is part of the network of Information Commons computer facilities at the Australian National University. InfoPlace@Art is located opposite the Art Library and InfoPlace@Music is situated inside the Music Library.

Opening Hours

The InfoPlace Labs are open during Library opening hours.

InfoPlace Help

During teaching weeks, Infoplace Consultants are available on-call to give IT assistance.
Please ask staff at the Art Library Desk or Music Library Desk to call a Consultant.

Equipment

InfoPlace@Art

  • 2 networked printers.
  • 16 Apple iMacs (4 located inside Art Library foyer).
  • 2 flatbed scanners.
  • 4 Windows PCs (located inside Art Library).

InfoPlace@Music

  • 2 networked printers.
  • 6 Windows PC computers
  • 6 Apple iMacs
  • Midi keyboard/synthesizers are attached to 2 of the Macs which also have special composition and notation software (Micrologic, Finale, Cubase).
  • 2 Windows PCs, 2 Macs, and a flatbed scanner are located outside the lab, inside the Music Library.

Logging On

All staff and students at the Australian National University can use Information Commons labs.

Student Logon:

Userid lowercase "u" followed by student number
Password ISIS password

Staff Logon:
Userid lowercase "u" followed by staff number
Password HORUS password

Software

Students and staff can use the computers in the InfoLabs for:
  • Research using library catalogues and databases
  • Web browsing and searching (IE, Firefox and Safari)
  • Word processing (Word)
  • Spreadsheets (Excel)
  • Presentation software (Powerpoint)
  • Email (Mozilla Thunderbird)
  • Bibliographic management software (Endnote)
  • Image editing (Adobe Creative Suite on the iMac computers)
  • Music notation and composition (Finale, Cubase and Micrologic - only available on 2 Music InfoPlace Macs)

Technical Support

InfoLab equipment and software is provided by the Division of Information.
Hardware faults may be reported to Library staff, or to the Division of Information Helpdesk on extension 59666. Problems with software and file management should be reported to Infoplace Consultants. Ask at Library Desk about this service, or visit AskANU on level 2 in the Chifley Library where Consultants are available during the extensive library opening hours.
