Music Library Guide

Collections

The Music Library is located on the ground floor of the School of Music.


The Music Collections include:

  • Performance scores
  • Compact Disks
  • LPs
  • Books
  • Collected works
  • Journals & magazines
  • Electronic journals
  • Research databases including Music Index, International Index to Music Periodicals, Muse (RILM), and interdisciplinary databases such as Factiva, and Dissertations Abstracts.

Listening & viewing facilities for CDs, audiotapes, LP records, videotapes and DVDs are available inside the Library.


Locating Items in the Music Library

Books, large scores, mini scores and CD's are available via the ANU Library Catalogue (Innopac). You can search Innopac in any Library building
on the web: ANU Library Web Catalogue
or telnet to: library.anu.edu.au  (Login as library, choose A for VT100 and then y for yes.)

It is also possible to use the catalogue to:

Material not on the Online Catalogue:

  • Classical and Jazz LP records are listed in card catalogues located at the back of the Library next to the LP collections.
  • A Browse List for Jazz CDs is located in the Jazz collection next to the Reserve shelves (some jazz CDs are on the online catalogue)
  • Browse the Music Folders (Performance music is kept in folders under the name of instruments or instrumental groups).

Recent additions to the music collection are listed on the Art & Music Newly Catalogued Titles web page.


Loans Policy

The ANU Library Loan Rules table provides details about the number of items and borrowing period for all types of Art Library material.

Infoplace@Music

The Music Infoplace is a computer laboratory located inside the Music Library. It is equipped with Windows PCs and Macintosh emacs for the use of ANU students.

Infoplace computers can be used for:

  • Word processing
  • Email
  • Library catalogue and database searching
  • Internet access (A good starting point is the ANU Library's search engine list)

Two of the macs are also equipped with midi keyboard/synthesisers and software for composition and notation (Cubase, Sibelius and Finale).

Printing is available from all computers from a networked printer.

Computers in Infoplace labs are supported by the Division of Information.

Student Consultants are available on-call to assist students in the Music Infoplace. Ask at the Music Library Desk to call a Consultant. IT help is also available from Infoplace@Chifley.

Photocopying Services

  • The Music library has one photocopier for the use of School of Music staff, and two card-operated photocopiers for the use of students and external users.
  • All copies made by staff and students are subject to the provision of the Copyright Act 1968.
