Art Library Guide

Collections

The Art Library collections include material on visual arts in many formats including books, exhibition catalogues, videos, CD Roms, DVDs, slides, journals and magazines. There are also many online resources available to staff and students such as e-resources (databases) and online image collections.

Facilities

The Art Library has a Teaching Room which can be booked at the Art Library Desk.
The Library also has a range of audio visual equipment including:

  • Slide projectors
  • Overhead projectors
  • 16mm film projector
  • Videocassette players
  • DVD players
  • Data projectors
  • Audiocassette players

Networked Mac and Windows PC computers are available for ANU staff and students inside the Art Library and in the InfoPlace@Art computer lab opposite the Library.
Assistance in using the Infolab and all Information Commons computing facilities at ANU is available from ANU InfoPlace.
Training in software applications is available through the ANU Information Literacy Program .


Locating Items in the Library

  • There are catalogue PCs inside the Art Library and all other ANU Library buildings.
  • You can search the ANU Library Web Catalogue on the internet.

Loans

To borrow from the Library take the required items together with your Library or student card to the Loans Desk.
If the item you require is already on loan you may place a hold on the item using the Library catalogue.
Please note that fines and penalties may apply to any overdue library item.

The ANU Library Loan Rules Table provides details about the number of items and loan period for all types of Art Library material by different categories of borrower.

Slides

The Art Library contains a collection of more than 70,000 35mm slides. Equipment is available for viewing slides in the Library (light box, Caramate slide viewer and slide projector). Slides are classified by the Chicago Institute of Art Ryerson Classification system and filed by medium and country. School of Art staff and students may borrow limited numbers of slides.

Photocopying

Black and white and colour photocopiers are available for student use. They are operated by a swipe-card system. Swipe-cards may be purchased and re-valued at the Music Library and at other library buildings on the ANU campus. Please note that libraries are unable to supply change. There is also a photocopier for School of Art staff inside the library.
