Special emphasis has been given to public and international law within the collection.
All books are located on the first floor of the library and are arranged according to topic.
The nature of legal material, with its strong emphasis on case law reports and legislation, is such that most items held in the Law Library are not for loan. The Law Library has created a special collection, called "Permanent Reserve" to house the material that is used most heavily. Permanent reserve is also located on the ground floor of the library.
Items that are in high demand or are required readings for courses are put into the Law Library's Reserve Collection (sometimes referred to as "short loan").
A wide range of legal databases is available to ANU staff and students. For a complete listing, have a look at the Library's eresources page. To isolate legal databases, go to [--Select a subject--] and choose "Law". The Library also provides access to numerous electronic journals, many of which are legal.
Government publications are selectively acquired and some are individually catalogued in the Law Library. A comprehensive collection of government documents can be consulted in the Official Documents Collection in the Menzies Building which includes parliamentary debates and papers, census and statistical material, United Nations publications, the Australian Bureau of Statistics collection and CD-ROM products. Items in this collection are listed in the on-line public access catalogue and are for use in library only.
Material may be located through the on-line public access catalogues in any ANU Library location, or via the Internet at http://library.anu.edu.au. No password is required.
