SciFinder Scholar provides access to Chemical Abstracts, with citation searching as well as structure searching.

Access - Who & How

• Available to all ANU Staff and Students
• To use SciFinder Web, you must create your own username and password. Instructions are available at http://anulib/subjects/science/databases/sfs_login.html. Once you have your login, choose Choose SciFinder from the Library's E-Resources page - http://anulib.anu.edu.au/eresources/.
• Alternatively, you may download the SciFinder Scholar client to your office PC or Mac. Instructions are available from http://anulib.anu.edu.au/subjects/science/databases/sfmac.html (Mac) or http://anulib.anu.edu.au/subjects/science/databases/sfpc.html (PC)

Technical Requirements

• If using the version available via the Library's database page: JavaScript must be enabled.

Quick Start

• Create your own user id and password (instructions at http://anulib/subjects/science/databases/sfs_login.html).
• Click on SciFinder https://scifinder.cas.org/ from list on the library's E-Resoures page.
• You will then be connected to Scifinder.
• To undertake a literature search, select Research Topic from the task list and enter your search topic.
• You may also search using Chemical Structure or Reaction, which allows you to search by chemical structure.

• For best results, enter your research topic as a complete sentence, for example:
  I am interested in the effect of penicillin on milk production in dairy cows.
  
• Boolean operators should be used as part of the free-text search query, for example:
  I am interested in ringed planets but NOT Saturn
  I am interested in interface software for bibliographic information OR numeric data
  
• Scifinder Scholar DOES NOT use nesting.
