Finding & borrowing reserve & short loan material - for students

Finding reserve & short loan material

There are a number of ways you can search for Reserve materials. On the library home page search the Catalogue drop down list by:

  • Reserve (Course) and search using the ANU unit code or unit name-for example HIST1001 or Biology AO3.

  • Reserve (Lecturer) and search the lecturer's family name followed by a given name or initial.

Alternatively, if you know the title or author of an article search these in the Library Catalogue in the same way you would for any other item. This only applies while it is on Reserve. Reserve lists link to online resources and indicate which library books are held in and if they are available for two hour or two day loan.

If you are off campus, login to the Information Technology Services Reverse Proxy login to search the Library Catalogue.

Borrowing reserve & short loan material

Two hour loans

Two hour loan items are located near the information desk in each Library location. When the Library is open these items can be borrowed and used within the Library and must be returned to information desk staff on time or fines will accrue.

Within two hours of library closing times most two hour loan items can be borrowed overnight. They must be returned by opening time on the next business day or fines will accrue.

You can ask Library staff to book items for a specific time and date.

Two day loans

These items are located on the general shelves in each Library location. They must be returned by close of business on the due date. Items placed in a returns chute after the Library closes may accrue a fine.

Returning reserve & short loan material

When the Library is closed, books can be placed in the returns chute near the entrance to each Library location. Books placed in the return chute will be checked in on the date the Library reopens not the date you placed the book in the chute.

To avoid fines please make sure you return books on or before the due date.
