The ANU Library has been acquiring significant collections of print and electronic books throughout 2016, including almost 8,500 titles from Books at JSTOR and over 38,000 titles from Proquest Ebooks.
Almost 1,000 of the new Proquest Ebooks titles have been directly downloaded by academics thanks to the Library’s Patron Driven or Demand Driven Acquisition service.
The service lets ANU academics and students download a title directly, without having to fill in a request form, and if downloaded multiple times it is permanently added to the collection.
Publishers whose titles have been added to the collection as part of the service include Taylor and Frances (accounting for over 50% of the downloads so far), University of Pennsylvania Press, University of California Press, Stanford University Press, Wiley, SAGE and Oxford University Press.
Some of the downloaded titles include:
> Bollywood and postmodernism
> Public value and public administration
> The future of social movement research
> Access to justice for disadvantaged communities
> Federal Rivers: Managing Water in Multi-Layered Political Systems
> Data Science in R: A Case Studies Approach to Computational Reasoning and Problem Solving
> Religion and the Subtle Body in Asia and the West: Between Mind and Body
> Hegel: An Intellectual Biography
In addition to titles added automatically to the collection, we have purchased the Royal Society of Chemistry eBook collections (2015 and 2016); Institute of Physics (2016 and 2017); and over 2,000 individual orders received directly from ANU staff and students including course material.
If you would like to suggest a purchase, you can submit requests anytime via the library website.
