Law Library hail repair update – February 2024

06 Feb 2024

We have been advised that the Law Library hail repair works will take longer than originally estimated. This includes interior work such as ceiling, lighting, and ducts.

Unfortunately, this will impact our ability to open Level 2 for Semester 1 this year. Library staff are doing everything possible to mitigate impacts on staff and students, and the contractor is doing everything they can to complete the works as soon as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience.

We are anticipating that Level 2 will remain closed until April 2024.

What is impacted during this closure?

  • The physical collection on Level 2 is restricted, and unable to browse.
  • The Level 2 group study rooms and Law Seminar Room are unavailable.
  • The toilets and hot/cold water are unavailable (please use facilities in Moot Court).

24-hour access will remain to Level 1 (the ground floor), which includes the information desk, study areas, Level 1 collections, MFDs, computer areas, and return chutes.

How do I access library materials?

A retrieval service will be in place for those who need to access resources from Level 2.

Please use this request form and allow at least 24 hours notice to account for the additional time needed to retrieve books while Level 2 is an active building site.

Items will be made available on the Level 1 hold shelves, and can be borrowed via the self-check machines at any time.

Law Library staff are currently identifying commonly used items for Semester 1 courses, which will be made available on Level 1.

Note to academics and staff: if there is an item you are planning to recommend, or you anticipate will be high use for your course, please notify Law Library staff as soon as possible so they can make it accessible for the start of Week 1.

Thank you to everyone for your patience during this process.
