Law Library temporary closure (17 - 18 February) and HAZMAT

During interior scoping work for the Law Library hail remediation work, bonded asbestos was detected in mechanical units located in the ceiling.

The asbestos will be removed by trained HAZMAT professionals. To facilitate this, the entire Law Library (including 24/7 access) will be closed from 6.30am Saturday 17 to 4pm Sunday February to avoid any indirect exposure to the materials.

The asbestos has been in place since the original construction of the building. It has been assessed by appropriate experts to ensure the workplace is safe.  It has not posed any risks as it is located in an enclosed space and is only an issue if physically disturbed (such as during removal).

The construction team and library staff have taken all possible steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all library users during this process.
