Update on hail repairs - Chifley Library

02 Dec 2022

The 2020 hailstorm caused damage to many buildings on the ANU campus, including ANU Library buildings.

Work to repair the Chifley Library roof is currently taking place. Below is an update on works and what can be expected during this process. All timeframes are approximate, and there may be delays depending on weather conditions and other site factors.

Update on work

  • Scaffolding installation has been finalised, and work on the roof has commenced.
  • A 250-tonne crane was onsite Saturday 26 November to assist with the loading of roofing materials and removal of a redundant mech unit from the roof.
  • Level 4 of Chifley has been blocked off for safety purposes andwill remain inaccessible throughout the construction period. If you require resources from Level 4, please submit a retrieval request.

Upcoming work

  • Roofing work will continue starting from the eastern side.
  • The hazmat team are working to remove the asbestos membrane. Once completely cleared, the roofing work can start in those sections.
  • Materials are being ordered for the eaves, which is scheduled to commence in February/March 2023.
  • An alternative parenting room is being investigated.

Thank you for your patience during this process.

Please get in touch with Library staff if you have any questions or concerns.
