Universities Australia has announced that through the sector-wide collaboration between CAUL, Universities Australia and Universities New Zealand – Te Pōkai Tara, in principle for read and publish agreements with global publishers Springer Nature and Wiley have been reached. This is in addition to the previous announced agreement with Taylor & Francis.
Each of these three agreements offer significant value for the University to enable open access publishing whilst avoiding APC payments. They represent a considerable improvement on publishing terms compared with previous agreements and will allow a greater rate of open access publishing.
SpringerNature
- Uncapped hybrid (previously capped)
- Sufficient coverage for Gold OA publishing (no Gold included in the previous agreement)
Taylor & Francis
- Uncapped hybrid publishing (previously capped)
- Uncapped Gold OA publishing (no Gold included in the previous agreement)
Wiley
- Uncapped hybrid publishing
- Sufficient allocation (cap) for Gold OA publishing
- 20% discount on any APCs paid for outside of the agreement (increase from 10% in previous agreement)
Uncapped publishing gives greater certainty to authors when submitting articles, and removes a lot of administrative burden when caps are reached. The Library is pleased to sign up to these agreements for 2026.
More information, including eligible article types and included journal lists, will be available in early 2026 on the Library’s Open Access Publishing Agreements guide.
