Chifley Library is expanding its booking system to computer desks and study booths, making popular study spaces easier and fairer to access
Students have long been able to book a Group Study Room in each of the ANU Library branches, but in 2026 Chifley Library is trialling an expansion of this booking system to two other study areas – the Computer Desks on Level 2, and the Study Booths on Level 3.
Why is this changing?
Study space is always in high demand, and this change will help to provide students with more equitable access, and give them some certainty about finding a place to study when they come to the library.
How to book a study space
Bookings can be made from the library webpage (https://anu.libcal.com/) or by scanning a QR code in the space that you’ve chosen. You can make a booking up to two weeks in advance, with each space having a maximum number of hours per day that it can be booked (refer to the booking module). Once you make a booking you will receive a confirmation email with a Check-In code.
Checking in for your booking
When you arrive at your booked space, you will need to use your assigned Check-In code to confirm that you are using the space. This can be done by scanning the QR code in the space that you’ve booked, and entering your Check-In code on the resulting form. Failure to check in within 30 minutes of your booking start time means that your booking will be automatically cancelled, and the space will be made available for other students to use.
Set up an email filtering rule
To make your Check-In codes easier to find, we recommend that you create an email folder specifically for your space booking emails, and set up an email filtering rule that will send all your booking confirmation emails to this folder. These emails will be sent from the alerts@mail.libcal.com address.
