Mexican digital “cultural corner” launched at ANU Library

20 Nov 2019

The ANU Library is currently hosting an amazing database - the Rincón de Cultura Digital UNAM (meaning the UNAM digital cultural corner), developed by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). This platform provides access to a wealth of Spanish language audio-visual materials and content.

The Ricón was officially launched on Friday 15 November by His Excellency, Mr Eduardo Patricio Peña Haller, Mexican Ambassador to Australia. Mr Peña Haller believes that we now have a bit of Latin America in Canberra - giving a window into the enormous cultural heritage of the Mexican and Spanish American culture.

University Librarian Roxanne Missingham welcomed the installation of the Ricón, believing it will enrich scholarship around Spanish and Latin American studies; as well as improve our understanding and appreciation of Mexico. Roxanne said that the database links us to a rich treasure house of Mexican thinking; writing; philosophy and more – which is really important to get a deep understanding of the nation.

There was a demonstration of the database, which offers a huge collection of resources including literature; theatre; music; poetry; conferences; lectures and courses; science; and much more.

You can access this database online, as well as via a dedicated computer in ‘The Deck’, the Chifley Library’s new digital innovation and collaboration hub.

While you’re in the Chifley Library, also take a look at our display celebrating Mexican literature, culture and music.
