Becoming an external borrower
Members of the public and institutional and corporate groups can register as external borrowers. Membership options, and associated fees, are outlined below.
Library memberships offer:
- loans of books
- use of print serials onsite
- access to a small number of electronic resources through selected computers in ANU Library branches.
These memberships below do not offer:
- offsite access to electronic resources*
- access to interlibrary loans and document supply from other libraries*
- the ability to request books or other material to be purchased
- 24-hour access to any Library buildings.
*Registered ANU Alumni can access selected e-resources offsite and alumni members can access interlibrary loans (service costs apply)
Individual membership options
Members of the public can register or renew an individual membership by visiting the Information Desk in any Library branch. Identification or supporting documents will be required.

ACT schools and incorporated musical groups
ACT schools and incorporated musical groups can register for an institutional or corporate membership. This membership option includes up to ten orchestral or choral sets per year.

Two weeks notice is required to prepare loans, and sets are to be collected from and returned to the Art & Music Library. To arrange loans email the Art & Music Library or phone (02) 6125 9577.
Visual Arts Access & Open School of Music students
Visual Arts Access and Open School of Music programs are run with the support of the ACT Government and all students enrolled in these courses receive free Library membership as part of their enrolment. Membership can be arranged by visiting the information desk in the Chifley Library and presenting proof of enrolment.
Visual Arts Access & Open School of Music students can borrow up to 15 items from the ANU Library’s general collection for a period of 4 weeks (this does not include serials; electronic resource, or reserve items (2 hour and 2 day loans)).
